California Governor Newsom Falsely Claims Tennessee Town ‘Banned Being Gay In Public’

Internet fact check exposes Democrat governor as liar

California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom was fact-checked by X Community Notes on Thursday after lying to his followers about a Tennessee town’s new ordinance.

“A city in Tennessee has banned being gay in public. This is just the beginning. We have to call this out,” Newsom fearmongered.

The X Community Notes clarified, “The ordinance did not ban homosexuality, it banned indecent behavior. There was 70-year-old provision that banned homosexuality, however, that portion of the ordinance was recently removed on a unanimous vote from City Council.”

The ordinance, passed in June, placed a ban on all public “indecent behavior,” including “indecent exposure, public indecency, lewd behavior, nudity or sexual conduct.”

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon accurately noted, “Gavin Newsom thinks being gay means exposing yourself in public.”

The ordinance actually affects more straight couples than gay couples since “cis people” are in the majority.

The governor’s stance also insinuates gays are more likely to engage in “indecent exposure, public indecency, lewd behavior, nudity or sexual conduct.”

Even the Drudge Report ran with the misleading headline.

The false narrative being pushed by the media is reminiscent of the establishment’s attacks on a Florida bill that banned teachers from talking about “sexuality or gender with kids aged kindergarten through 3rd grade.”

Last year, politicians and media members falsely labeled Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill, the “Don’t Say Gay” bill when it actually restricted teachers from discussing any type of sexuality, identity or gender with young students in “a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate.”

Internet users blasted Newsom’s ignorant comment:

Tennessee: You can’t have sex in public

Gavin Newsom: OH SO YOU CANT BE GAY WOW

No Gavin, they actually recently ended a 70 year old ordinance that banned public homosexuality but they passed a ban on indecent exposure, nudity, public indecency, lewd behavior and sexual conduct. This ban came after my wife and I exposed a public pride event where drag queens…
