The director at a sexual assault center at a Canadian university has come under fire after signing an open letter that claims there were no women raped during the October 7 Hamas attacks against Israel.
Samantha Pearson, director at the University of Alberta’s Sexual Assault Center, was just one individual among several who signed the letter that was written by two politicians, according to the Daily Mail.
The two authors of the letter are Sarah Jama, a member of Ontario’s provincial parliament, and Susan Kim, a city councilor in Victoria. They wrote, “We, the undersigned, residing in so-called Canada, urge Canadian political leaders to end their complicity in the ongoing massacres and genocide in Gaza, Occupied Palestine.”
The letter called on the MPs throughout the country to resign after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refused to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East. The title of the letter was “Stand with Palestine: Call on Political Leaders to End Their Complicity in Genocide!”
Those who signed the letter condemned opposition leader Jagmeet Singh for repeating the “unverified accusation that Palestinians were guilty of sexual violence.” The Boston Globe published a report early Saturday morning, revealing the evidence that suggests there were women sexually assaulted by Palestinians during the attack on October 7.
The Unspeakable Terror – Gender Based Violence on October 7
While the accusations of sexual abuse and rape by Hamas terrorists are currently being investigated by the authorities, the Times of Israel noted that the evidence currently available is strong that there were sexual crimes committed. No rape kits were handed out within the first 48 hours of the attacks, but some of the witness accounts have proven valuable and powerful.
The Daily Mail reported on one such witness account, which featured one woman sharing with the police that she watched Hamas terrorists rape a woman, cut off her breast, and then shoot her in the head.
The woman, only identified as Witness S, said that “[h]e is raping her, and then they pass her on to another person.”
“Afterwards someone really penetrates her and shoots her in the head before he finishes. It’s not like he ejaculates and picks up his pants… He shoots her in the head while he’s still inside of her.”
Mirit Ben Mayor, a spokesman for the Israeli police, said that they have located the body of the victim the witness spoke about.
Many colleges and universities across the U.S. have come out in support of Palestine, despite the atrocities carried out by Hamas.
