A car theft suspect was caught in an execrable trap of his own making after he tried to hide from police in a porta-potty on a golf course, Wisconsin police said.
Glendale Police said they were chasing after four suspects in a white Dodge Durango on Wednesday at about 11:30 a.m. when they crashed into several cars on a highway and the four jumped out to flee from the scene.
Two of the suspects ran into the Lincoln Park Golf Course where golfers said they decided to take action to help police.
Ilissa Boland told WISN-TV that she and her friends heard the crash and saw one of the suspects jump into a porta-potty while the second suspect ran into the woods. She said her friend Adam went over to check on a child that they had seen near the porta-potty when the suspects ran through.
“Adam had gone over to see if the kid was still in there and then decided to push the port-a-potty over, trapping him inside,” Boland said. “Adam said It was really smelly, and he could hear the sloshing. So I could just imagine the stench.”
Video showed squad cars driving onto the golf course and police surrounding the porta-potty. Police ordered the suspect out of the porta-potty and arrested him.
Glendale police said they arrested two of the four suspects. They said the SUV had been stolen from Plymouth, Minnesota. Two drivers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, police said.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to be in the right place at the right time,” said Boland. “Even if it was a crappy situation for the kid.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
